Halloween, one of the oldest celebrations, took place first in Ireland approximately 2000 years ago. The term Halloween is an alteration of “All Hallows Eve” and finds a different formulation all over the world: Samhain, All Hallow tide, The Feast of the Dead or The Day of the Dead. Through times, the original “All Hallows Eve” changed considerably and become the second grossing commercial holiday after Christmas.

According to the American National Retail Federation, on Halloween eve:

  • 72.2% will hand out candy
  • 46.3% will carve a pumpkin
  • 20.8% will visit a haunted house
  • 11.5% will dress up their pets !?! (Both my dogs already have their Halloween outfits!)

But some people don’t like Halloween at all and even fear it. That fear is call the “Samhainophobia”.

Let’s talk about pumpkins…

  • Did you know that the most faithful representative of Halloween “Jack O’Lanterns” was firstly made out of a turnip? A little bit less charming!
  • Did you know that a pumpkin is really a squash, and comes from the same family as the cucumber?
  • Did you know that the largest pumpkin ever weighed 836 lb? Impressive!

But Halloween is also a good occasion to spend time with family. So why not try our lines of In Cuisine risotto and mashed potatoes ready in 2-minutes for supper. It will save you time, so you can join your little ones for a trick or treat tour to the neighborhood.

Happy Halloween!
