Get to know Santa better!
Kersvade, Weihnachtsmann, Дядо Коледа, Papá Noel, Thatha, Pai Natal, Senis Šaltis… Santa has tons of different names around the world. However, even if the myth varies depending on the region (mostly because of the climate), most people see him as a big man with a long white beard, wearing red and white clothes. Most cultures also agree that he’s assisted by elves riding a sled pulled by reindeer.
*Funny fact though… Did you know that in Australia Santa rides a surfboard?
The modern figure of Santa Claus is derived from its Dutch ancestor “Sinterclass” and the idea that Coca-Cola has designed Santa Claus is an urban legend. Even if the company has contributed to set Santa Claus’s image, studies show that the figure we associate with Santa was widespread since 1866 by many other companies (Waterman, Michelin, Colgate, etc).
Over the years Santa’s house has moved many times and even today countries don’t agree on one location. I personally thought he lived in the North Pole, but apparently that region is too cold to feed the reindeer! In any case, over a million letter are sent every year to Santa Claus proving that the magic of Christmas is not about to disappear anytime soon.
Happy Holidays to all of you!
Ho! Ho! Ho!
