Drink your greens!

Green smoothie {Photo: © www.52kitchenadventures.com}

Most kids don’t like to eat their greens, but if presented with them in a way that they love they usually cave in. A smoothie always does the trick, even though summer is almost over when presented with a nice cold veggie smoothie you are bound to see smiles on all faces.

Here is my favorite green smoothie recipe.

  • 8 ounces filtered water
  • handful of baby spinach
  • 1/2 ripe avocado (if you are looking for something super creamy and comforting – especially during colder months – add the whole avocado)
  • 1/2 banana
  • 1/2 lime
  • 1 pear or apple
  • handful of ice

  1. Mix all of the ingredients in a blender, add the water, and more ice to make it ticker if desired.
  2. You can also add more fruit to make it sweeter.
  3. Top with a squeeze of lime if desired.

You will find the original recipe for this smoothie here. I added the apple or pear to mine to make it a bit sweeter and to make it taste less “green”. I sometimes also add a cucumber when I don’t have a banana on hand.
