5 essential herbs and spices
A few days ago, I listed some of the essential pantry items that I always have on hand. Today. I’d like to tell you about some of the essential herbs and spices I always keep around.
I am Greek so oregano is in my culinary tradition. I use the dried version and the fresh version of this herb very often like in this eggplant, tomato and feta crostini
- Fleur de sel
I like to sprinkle some of it to finish up salads, barbecued meats and even chocolate desserts!
There’s nothing like the smell of fresh thyme! It brings out the flavour of your food so well and I just love using it, like in this scrumptious pork roast recipe
I love the earthiness of rosemary, it lends so much flavor to fish, meat and even simple roasted vegetables
- Steak spice
One of my favourite cooking methods is barbecuing. I like to use steak spices for a quick marinade or to spice up a roast beef
Now that summer is here, I like to plant some of my favourite herbs and have some fresh all summer long. Rosemary, thyme, mint, chives, basil, all these grow very well outdoors in the summer and along a sunny window in the winter. How nice is it to be able to pick your fresh herb minutes before using it in your favourite meal?
