10 essential pantry items
What do you have in your pantry at all times? Pantry items are time savers and allow you to put together an impromptu and delicious dinner or aperitif for your family or friends who drop by unannounced in no time.
I always have the following 10 essential items in my pantry at all times:
- Dry pasta, rice and grains (couscous, quinoa, etc.)
For a quick side dish or grain salad
- Different broth (chicken, beef and vegetable)
Absolutely essential to make a quick soup or to use in a sauce for fish, poultry or meat
- Canned beans and chickpeas
How else would I make my easy and delicious hummus when I get unexpected guests?
- Canned tomatoes and tomato paste
For a quick pasta sauce or to make my delicious beef bourquigon recipe
- Canned tuna, salmon or sardines
For a quick dip or a delicious tuna melt sandwich
- Good quality dark chocolate
The easiest dessert you’ll ever make is to melt chocolate and make a quick “fondue“. You can dip fruit, marshmallows and In Snax cinnamon pita crisps in it
- Olive oil
I use olive oil in absolutely everything, all my meals start with it and I love putting out a dish of infused olive oil for guests to dip bread in
- Vinegars (balsamic, red wine, raspberry, etc.)
Each of these vinegars can be used to make salad dressings or as a dip for crusty bread mixed with a good quality olive oil
- Garlic and onions
The 2 most used ingredients in my kitchen (apart from olive oil). Almost everyone of my meals start with sauteing garlic and onions
- In Snax
An amazingly versatile ingredient, lower in fat than the leading chip and easy to store. You can use In Snax to scoop up dips, top salads or in desserts and your guests will always rave about them!
Next week I will be telling you about essential spices that I always have on hand. What are some of your absolute must-have pantry items?
